The moon formed a neat half circle in a grey-blue sky as I walked the path this morning.
As I reached the corner, a Woollies van rattled up to the dotted line. It swung around the corner and I heard the distinct thump of something falling out of its crate. If you live near me and you are missing a bag of potatoes, please know that it was more collateral damage rather than forgetfulness on the shop’s part.
Further along a pale gum tree stretched metres above me. Its trunk split into four reaching limbs and it looked like a many armed cheerleader, shaking giant leafy pompoms. It was clearly cheering me on.
As I huffed and puffed, mouth breathing and sniffling under my mask, I smelled coffee seeping from under front doors. I heard dishes clattering in kitchen windows. I saw daffodils springing merrily out of well-mulched beds.
When I was almost at the park a Scottie dog in a fetching coat ran across my line of sight. I tried to catch up with him (?), but he was too quick, too dashing. I took this photo to show you were he disappeared to.
Then I wandered out of the trees, abandoning the Scottie hunt, and made for the usual between-fences path.
Every day this path is a little bit different. New flowers, branches dropped overnight, fresh foliage. I like to spot the differences.
Some sweet violets were peeking out from under a fence today. They were probably there the day before but it’s hard to see all the interesting things when you can’t wear your glasses.
As I made for home a magpie hopped along the footpath and warbled right at me.
Then I saw a single lorikeet asleep in a tree. I wanted to take a photo of said snoozy bird to show you, but honestly … it seemed a bit creepy.

I’d love to disappear into that landscape where the Scottie dog ran - it looks so serene. Such a lovely place you have to walk each day. Xx
Beautifully written I wanted to turn the page and read more. Looking forward to your book...
