I say yes to going back at night because if people DO live there they’ll have their lights on & you’ll know if anyone is inside. No lights equals fill a bag with lemons!

i'm team take-the-lemons...but don't get greedy...just thin them out a little :) also i think you're right...any streetsweeper reading a manual must be involved in some kind of espionage. there's no manual for streetsweeping! such a rooky mistake...

Okay. Thank you for your vote. I am thinking a note ... and if empty/ok then taking just a few is the way to go.

Perhaps you could sneak a few, bake something delicious, then drop off a sampling to the tree owner. Perhaps you’ll cheer someone up, and get permission to pick a few more!

Maybe the person who lives in there (if they exist of course!) might need some assistance harvesting their lemons? Could be more of a mobility issue thing!

Oh the old abandoned lemon tree faithful in fruit, she needs to be honoured for her hard work! A note, a knock, a clandestine visit, she's calling you.

We are not allowed to knock, really, COVID etc. Kathryn thinks a note would be good.

I'd say leave a note with some kind of instruction, like tie a shoelace on the gate if I can take some lemons. If nothing happens then go back at night and get some. Leave them a jar of curd on the doorstep.

Also well done for walking without headphones, I listen to podcasts on the way out, it distracts me on the hills, then when I turn for home I stop listening and observe. I'd like to walk without any distractions but then when will I listen to my podcasts? But really I think I have too many inputs into my brain and my thoughts, less would probably good for me.

Cheers Kate

I just thought it might be a fun gamey kind of thing to do.

Ugh, the mask/fog conundrum is real!

I love walking without noise in my ears too. You really do notice so much more. Only my walking shoes tread makes too much noise, especially on crushed gravel paths, so I’ve dragged out my old blowfish Malibu’s - 80’s vibe while I walk - BIG bonus 😉

Yes. I would never pick a rose or anything from someone's front garden (ok ... perhaps a sprig of lavender from a bountiful bush once or twice). But there is something about trees in empty houses (this house is, I am 99% sure, empty) and plants draping over side fences into parkland ... their flowers dropping onto the ground, that makes me think they're SORT of communal. Perhaps that is stretching the truth a little? A note could be good ... I will think on that!
